Take That, Polar Vortex {Giveaway}

Monday, February 10, 2014

Hey guys! Less than a week left until Valentine's Day and only five weeks until the first day of Spring! I am a fan of Spring (mainly because it means my birthday is here), but I'm a Winter girl at heart. You all know I was born and raised in Montana so I think it's just in my make that I love Winter. Living in New Mexico there are maybe ten days in a year that truly count as Winter, but that doesn't mean I don't completely turn into a cold-weather hermit from November-March; and Ricky does too. So when we were approached by Staples to review a space heater on their website, we both jumped at the chance! Not only do we get to offer you our review, but we are giving away a space heater too!
{I was provided the space heater to review and a $50 Staples gift card, but all opinions are mine.
The giveaway is hosted by It's Always Ruetten and fulfilled by Staples.}
I have slept nearly ever single night of my life with either a fan or heater running in my room. It started as a little girl when my mom ran a humidifier in the hallway that gave off a nice white-noise that lulled me to sleep. I literally feel like the silence is so much more deafening than any white-noise could ever be. I share that little story, because last year when my space heater pooped out and I went out to buy a new one (at the end of the season), I couldn't find one in any store. So I hit up Thrift Town and was able to find one that made good white-noise, but didn't put off much heat; and most importantly didn't direct the heat on the floor so Ricky couldn't enjoy its warmth.

When Staples reached out to me for this review, I had a few criteria I was hoping to meet. The space heater needs to:
     1. be space efficient;
     2. give off a nice white-noise;
     3. direct the warm air onto the ground (for Ricky);
     4. have multiple levels of heat settings; and
     5. possibly come with a remote (because I'm lazy).

After looking at a couple different heaters on Staples.com, I decided to go with the Honeywell Cool Touch Oscillating Heater
via
The heater right off the bat checked off three of my five criteria (1, 3, 4). I just had to cross my fingers and throw caution to the wind that it would have a nice white-noise sound.

As soon as it arrived, I opened the box and had two immediate reactions:
     1. It was a bit bigger than I thought it would be (almost 12" tall) and
     2. The cord was very short.

With such a short cord (under three feet) I was limited with where I could put it in my bedroom, but I ended up with the perfect place - under the Mid-Century chairs I recovered last year.

Before I could even get the heater plugged in, Ricky had already claimed the box as his. This really was a win-win for him.
As soon as I plugged in the heater and it started up, a huge grin formed on my face. It makes the perfect amount of white-noise! And more importantly, the heat level is perfect for my bedroom! There are a few different heat settings, which I like having the ability to control. In the picture below, you can see the different settings that the heater lets you control.
Real life people. Cat hair, dust, and all.
After powering on the heater, the "set" button allows you to choose what level of heat is needed. I set mine to lo because it provides a constant heat (aka white-noise) throughout the night without making my bedroom like the inside of a fireplace. But, if I was trying to maintain a certain heat, I could just as easily hit the "set" button a few times until it reached the temperature I wanted.

Ricky has really become a fan of the warm air on the ground and lays down in front of it sometime in the night, every night. I voyeured him to get this shot:
He lays right in front of it and falls into a deep sleep. It really is cute.

I am so happy with this heater, it is ridiculous. It is just the right size and puts out just the right amount of heat. My initial reactions about the size and cord length were put to rest when I found the right spot for it.

So... now it's time for the giveaway!

If you are randomly selected as the winner, you will have your choice of any heater (found here) from Staples.com valued up to $100.

a Rafflecopter giveaway **It's Always Ruetten is not responsible for the shipping of this prize. The value of the heater may not exceed $100. Staples is only providing the product and not running the giveaway. Winner must have a valid mailing address. Giveaway is not associated with Facebook.**

  77. In the office area downstairs. The basement had heating installed when the basement was finished, but we often find the family room open area on the cool side. Spending an hour on the computer, it seems like a waste to raise the thermostat to heat the whole area. This heater would work so well with that limited area. And with your review and the photos you share, it is clearly cat approved.
