Trendy Christmas Cards with Silhouette + Free Cut Files

Monday, December 8, 2014

Today is such an incredible day for the blog! I'm pairing up with more than 30 other bloggers to share holiday projects... all of them made with either the Silhouette Portrait (mine) or the Silhouette Cameo! We are all members of the Silhouette Challenge Facebook group! Once you are done reading here, be sure to click on over and check out everyone else's projects too! Don't miss the two free cut files I'm sharing too (at the bottom)!

When Michael's was having one of their amazing winter sales, I picked up a package of plaid-patterned pre-cut cards. I almost returned them, but then inspiration hit! I turned them into trendy Christmas cards using my Silhouette... and (of course) love them!

Before you get started making your own, be sure you have all of the supplies you will need:
.Recollections Plaid Pre-Cut Cards (or card bases of your choosing)
.Silhouette Brand Printable Gold Foil
.Silhouette Brand Double-Sided Adhesive Sheets
.Silhouette Brand Red & Green Glitter
.Black Cardstock
.Spray glue
.2 free cut files (scroll down)
.Single hole punch (optional)

Once you have all of these items, you're ready to get started!

Now here's where you have a choice. You can create all of your gold dots using your Silhouette or you can use a single hole punch... whatever is easiest for you. I used a hole punch because I was away from my apartment when I was doing prep for the cards and it was easier to grab my hole punch rather than bring along my Silhouette.

To use your Silhouette to make the gold dots, make a circle that is .25" in diameter and then make rows and columns until the sheet is filled (don't use the fill sheet tool, because it leaves a bunch of empty wasted space.)

Once you have a bunch of dots cut out... the fun begins! Just start randomly laying them out, overlap them and let them get looser the farther from the corner they are. Then it's up to you to decide what type of message you want on your cards. I went for some trendy sayings, but really anything would work!

Sticking with the gold theme, I made a cut file to celebrate this Christmas season and a nod to the ever digital-age we live in... #christmas2014... I simply cut the file out of more of the printable gold foil. It's one image, so it's really easy to position it on the card.

Next up, I used one of the newest additions to my crafting stash... double sided adhesive! I thought it would be fun to put a trendy play on a Christmas carol, so I used Deck the Halls lyrics and red glitter for this flashy card:

Sticking with the glitter theme, but wanting the gold dots to be the the focus, I made and cut a saying out of black cardstock, then layered the double-sided adhesive and glitter on just one of the words... so, Feliz Navidad!

So now for the 2 free cut files!

Tip: Cut the "feliz" out of the double sided adhesive first,
then weld the two words and fut out of cardstock.
